BLM PLANS OFF HIGHWAY VEHICLE GRANT MEETING IN ARCATA

The Bureau of Land Management will accept public ideas for use of
off-highway-vehicle grant funds in a
public meeting Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m., at the BLM Arcata Field
Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata.

BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Bruce Cann said the agency wants to hear
about issues, concerns and
project ideas for grant funding that would be used at Samoa Dunes
Recreation Area and Thatcher Ridge
Wilderness Study Area WSA).

Cann said the BLM is seeking funds from the California Department of
Parks and Recreation, Off Highway
Vehicle Recreation Division. At Samoa Dunes, the BLM would use funds
for operations and maintenance of
the off-highway-vehicle area. At Thatcher Ridge WSA near Covelo, work
would involve the restoration of
several routes designated closed to vehicle use.

State funds for the grants come from gasoline taxes and off-highway
vehicle registration fees, often called
"green sticker" funds.

Those who cannot attend the meeting can receive copies of the grant
proposals, and make comments, by
contacting Cann at (707) 825-2322, or by email at [email protected].
