Bumper that mounts on stock brackets.

I have a 98xj with the factory tow hooks ( which I replaced with aftermarket ones ). The plactic cover is no longer over the bumper so its just the steel black stock bumper only. Is there an aftermarket bumper that I can mount to the stock brackets so I can keep my towhooks ?

Short of getting another stock bumper, I can't think of any that use stock bracket and since pretty much all of the decent aftermarket bumpers will have some sort of a tow point attachment to them you can ditch the tow hooks.

could probably build a stock style out of some c channel steel. Drill some holes like stock, paint and run it. You could even cut, bent and weld it to fit the front end contour better. You could also use box stock, cut slots for the brackets, drill the holes, and bolt it up

I thought about this idea myself.... I could even make the plastic end caps work with some trimming to make it look 'stock'.

alittle extra reinforcment and you got a cheap, strong bumper.

Yeah, but if you're going through the effort, why not "raise the anchor" and move the towhooks up?

Tomken makes a front one that will do that as well as the rear one, uses stock mounting points.

If you are going thru the trouble of getting a new bumper, get one with tow points already built into or mounted on it. I also have a 98 XJ with the factory tow-hooks and trust me, you don't want to do any sort of heavy recovery with them, I bent both of mine from pulling out others.

Might suppest the front bumer from Dan (Loose Nuts), I am very impressed with the quality and construction. Though, I've just sanded it down and painted it black hammer-tone, do make it stand out and match the rear and rockrails. Will have pics up soon.

I second Dan's bumper: it's a really nice/strong desing and it also looks clean.
