The front brakes are shot on the XJ I just picked up, going to do front rotors and pads within the next few days.

Being brand new to Jeeps, I dont know what "good" rotors and pads are. I'm a car guy, I'm assuming the same brakes I used in the GTO aren't necessarily what would be best for going to dirt/water/mud.

That being said, this is going to be off road probably 90%. I dont plan on going nuts with it and doing anything extreme, so I dont need anything ridiculously expensive. I was just planning on getting some basic OEM replacement rotors with some good pads but figured I'd see what you guys are running.

cheap.

the mud/nastyness/extended sitting will ruin them before they wear out.

daily drivers get expensive things, trail beaters get cheap, because you'll be replacing it before it wears out.
that's my theory anyway.

I've cut the rotors on the pile 3 times... Last time I cut them they were already under the minimum thickness... Manche is right, cheap cause it'll get ruined at some point.

Haha.. right on, makes sense. The only time I'll be using them is going downhill I suppose lol

Autozone has Rotors for 23.99 each (value craft) and pads for 18.99. I used the rotors on my XJ and I warped the last set, but just got another set since they were so cheap. Pads I got the 33 dollar set because they are lifetime replacement no matter what happens (wear them down, they replace them).

from autozone's warranty:

Warranty excludes damage caused by misuse, abuse, other faulty parts, improper installation or off-road, commercial or marine use.

yeah, they've refused to warranty things I've taken back.

I guess having a stock Jeep is good, I have taken back many parts I thought were bad or I needed to get replacements for. Even when I wasn't in the system for my last time I got brake pads they knew it was their lifetime replacement pads and gave me another set.

I just buy mid-grade stuff. Pretty much all the time. Especially when it comes to brakes.

Who knows if you've misused them? I've known people that have had paper/mail routes that get free replacement all the time. Mail route is more of a misuse than off roading.

Buy the lifetime rotors/pads.

I took back balljoints that have ripped apart in the mud after an axle shaft took them out, autozone rocks.

Nah, if he did that he might have better results.

Like all of these guys have said you can go cheap stock...but i would agree with Dan if you have a good auto parts store buy life time as you are going to go through them if you spend much time in mud......But that was not really your question.....want that pile to stop like it should without doing rear disks.....

One word...EBC with green stuff pads.....

That was 5 words...

Keep an eye on rock auto too, I got wagner rotors and loaded calipers for the 8.8 really cheap.
They were "private label closeout" (reboxed wagner stuff). I think rotors were 15 and calipers were 12 with pads. Lol

So now I don't feel bad if I throw some cheap brake stuff on...I think the metal part of the pads are chewing into the rotors on my jeep, I should probably fix that.
