Blue heeps Cage Build

In an effort to keep my heep from ripping itself apart, I've started building a cage for it. This cage is a knock-off of John D's cage. I owe him a couple beers for copying him! I hope it comes out half as good as his.

As I'm trying to keep my heep from looking like a rig out of Road Warrior, Can I do without any of these (red, green, yellow bars)? The purpose of this cage is rigidity and safety. Won't be racing and barrel rolling at 70! Thoughts?

you'll be fine without the red/green/yellow bars. get some angle iron and weld it from the a-pillar tube to the cowl and door hinges. tie it into the existing unibody as much as possible.

Arc the A-pillar/halo tube to match the drip rail. Weld the entire drip rail to the tube. Body isn't going anywhere now. Bracing the bottoms of the A-pillar to the inner fenders is great to do as well, do you plan on doing a tube to connect to the bumper? Tie that into the inner fender as well to keep it all supported around the front suspension/shock mounts.

Ya, I'll be doing the front later. I don't want to tie it to the arb front bumper since it's not a structural bumper. Have to come up with a new bumper for that portion of the build.
I'm going to tie the roof in with the legs of the cage. I'll have a plate on both sides of the roof that the cage will go through. So it will have six points where it attaches, b/c/d pillars. I'm thinking that will work.

you will want the cowl bar (yellow). there is no structure preventing the A-pillar from folding in without it the unibody is not strong enough to do it.

as far as the green bar, its only necessary if you end up on your lid. if you don't, its not necessary, if you do, it will keep the roof from folding.

Wrapped up the fab portion of my cage build. I did put the cowl bar in. It was tough getting out above the wipers, far enough back the hood doesn't hit it, and out of my line off sight. Going to weld up the cage next weekend.

Jeremy, We can compare the cages when I see you out at swamp.

Make certain you tie into both front door hinges with some material. Get rid of the ARB soon and run that tube forward soon. When you do so you can tie in more material to your track bar bracket and chassis making a bigger difference. Let me know if you want some pics.

Yes, I would definitely like to see pics. The front will be the next stage of my build.

Oh I like that. Sure would like to see more. Do you have a build thread or anything cracker? How do the coilovers mount? Is it tied to the outside bars?

It sure is tied into the cage. No build thread though.... :(

Let me dig some photos up a little later.
