Sorry another shock thread but I am considering on buying a new set of shocks since mine are worn out, but im looking towards getting some resivoir shocks. I dont wanna fork out to much dough as use my xj as a daily driver for work and college. But i would like something that can take an impact when i take it out in the desert. My current setup is a 4.5in lift (not sure what brand it is but im guessing skyjacker cause the springs are red) with procomp es3000 shocks. Ive seen the 5150 shocks are cheap but dont know how good they are. I would like some input on which shocks i should buy...

The 5150's will be a thousand times better than your ES3000's BUT if it were me, I'd buy 7100's because they are rebuildable. Spend a little more now and save in the long run (if you keep your jeep that long). They will be more money but can be had on RDC or DR....hell there were some 12's in the socal for sale section. Buy one at a time if need be but you will be happier.

holy crap that is. i almost want to buy them rebuild them and just let them sit in my room.

5150s will let you down after about 20 minutes of solid prerunning. that and you cant valve them firm enough.

Agreed on the 20 minutes of prerunning.

You actually can have them valved stiff enough, you just need to order it for that. Most folks order a little valving which works for crawling and street driving, but prerunning, it just does not cut it.

i would rather run a 5150 in the rocks then over a high speed section. They never really impressed me. However, they are a decent shock for the money. If you are doing any kind of prerunning, go with a 7100 or a fox 2.0

Great setup right there! Thats what i ran in my Xj, but I ran a 12" Short Body in the front, and 14" in the rear through the floor. Valving is a great start though
