Like Eagle said, the AAL's will make the ride stiffer, but not harsh.
It really depends on what your long term plans are with the XJ. If you're just gonna lift it 2" and don't plan on adding any more lift to it down the road , then I would go with the full AAL's.
However, shackles are the best way to go if you plan to lift it further later, cause they can be incorporated into a larger lift. Plus they do give you more flex and articulation off-road (which is why the springs will sag quicker).
As far as what company to go with, Rubicon Express (RE) makes great stuff and would not be a bad choice. I went with Rocky Road Outfitters and I could not be happier with it. The kit was $110 and included the coil spacers, shackles and a 1/2" leaf spacer.
I know that Rocky Road sells Doestch Shocks (which, BTW I hear nothing but good things about) and if you buy one of their kits you can get 4 shocks for $135. So for $245 +tax & shipping you get a pretty kick a** setup. (I spent a little more cause I went with Rancho shocks.

Good Luck and post some pics when you get the kit in!
