I'm gettin ready to install a temp gauge in my aw4 to keep tabs on it. Does anyone have a suggestion of where the most accurate place would be for the sending unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search, there is a thread discussing this very subject, or scroll down to the bottom of this thread and there are a number of related threads listed.

Good luck.

I put mine in the test port on the side of the tranny next to the cooler lines. Works great.

I'd install two senders, one right on the outlet and one right on the inlet, with a switch to select which is being used.

Why? Because I would want to see how much heat the trans is putting out (indicates how much you have to worry about it) and also how much heat is going into it in the first place.

Ken, this is a good idea. When are you expecting to have it ready for me to install in my Jeep?

A month or two after I go blue, and not a second before.

(check the poll I started sometime last year, I'm not joking - just slow as hell.)

Or you can pick up any trans temp gauge setup you want, along with an extra sensor and an SPDT or DPDT switch (depending on whether the sensors are 1 or 2 wire) and I'll whip up a wiring diagram so you can do it yourself.

I forget what/who I'm quoting, but "engineers add instrumentation in direct proportion to fear of malfunction". The transmission is one of those things I would love to keep my eye on.

Well hurry up!! I thought maybe you had given up on the various phases of that project...... Some of us more advanced members might end up joining the great NAXJA in the sky before getting to install some of that stuff if you wait too long.
