Automatic Tranny Problem

I need help with my transmission problem. It is probably something simple but I wanted to ask before doing anything.
Here's the symtoms:

It sticks in first gear, I mean I have to get the engine up to (or just over) 3k rpm before I let off the pedal so it shifts. It has shifted before on it's own at about 3500-4000 rpm. Also, If I am going for more power at when about 48-55 MPH (Outside of 1st gears limit) It will think 1st has more to give so of course it goes into first and begins to red line. This also happens at the same speed when I hit accel button on my cruise control. So I was beginning to think it was a computer problem.

Try replacing your TPS. If it is sending a signal to the computer that the throttle is wide open then it won't shift untill around 3k I had a similar problem on my 87. HTH

Yup, most likely the TPS, but first try adjusting your transmission kick-down cable (cheaper) to see if that helps. Also check the TPS connector, paying particular attention to the ground connection.
