Aussie Locker Install

Can anyone who has installed an aussie on a D44 with 4.56 gears tell me if you had to pull the carrier or not? ie will the pinion shaft make it out? I just want to be able to plan my time and that plays a large factor.

The ring gear will need to be ground in order to get the shaft out, but the carrier can stay in the axle.

WARNING!!!
DO not go totally ape-shit with the sanding drum. Grind a little tiny bit at a time untill the shaft just clears the gear.

^^^ true dat. I pulled the carrier, better than having a notched ring gear, and the ease of doing the install on a bench top more than justifies the effort. Just my 2 cents.
