Who would be interested in a wheeling trip to Apple Valley Farms on 28-29 July? They will be open to the public and I think it would be a good opportunity for us WI members and the MN members to have a little get together and break some parts. If you IL members wanna make it I suppose you can come too.....

Their website with more info is at http://www.rpm4x4.com/index.shtml

Post up if you're going to try and make it. If enough people want to go maybe we can make it an unofficial named event like "Mattfest" as suggested by Rev.

I think Ill be at the June event

The events at RPM's (Apple Valley Farms) are always a good time and I have never been let down in that respect. The trails are interesting and the entry fee includes primative camping for the weekend. People who register in advance get $10 off and you register on the RPM4X4 website.

However...
The technical specifications are much more stringent than most people are used to.
To whit:
You must have proper F/R tow points.
A proper strap and screw type clevice.
Fire Extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver.
Battery must be tied down. No bungies...
You must run a muffler.
Stearing must not be excessively loose.
Brakes must have good pedal and not be soft.
For those with convertables, you must run the stock roll bar or a cage.

Your vehicle will be Tech inspected at check in.

The last couple years I posted RPM events but got no takers from here, so I quit posting <shrug>//

I will probably be there with a couple members of our local club as at least a couple of us hit the July event each year.

Yea I checked out some of the pics. And the place looks fun.

About the tech, I think it is a great idea. I have seen some shabby rigs on the trails which I think are not even close to being safe.

I would love to make it but I will be doing MI, and cant afford two trips like this in one month .

Have fun ......Jay....

1-POOOOR Randy, can't run in Wisconsin 'cause he will be in Colorado........

b-Does a cat count as a muffler? My muffler went bu-bye four years ago and most tech people were not smart enough to know the difference?

Very interesting. I think I will be in on going to this one. Come on, who else wants to go? I have a good video of AVF and they have some great trails. I will possibly be bringing some locals also. Could be a good turnout with enough time to plan for it.

Anyone familiar enough with the area to suggest a meeting point for all of us to get together and have a campfire?

Contact Jeff 98 XJ WI. He has been there before and should know of a place.

That's why I put my description up. Anyway, I had a great time even though I had a little (more) bad luck. First, I swiped the passengers front door on a rock (again), then I cut a 35" BFG AT on a stump. I was stupid and drove into a mud pit too and spent all night tonight trying to rid the beast of pounds of sticky dried mud. However, the worst issue was about 7 miles from home when I felt a strange vibration just before my RR wheel fell off! Apparently gunk got past the wheel bearing seal and not enough lube got out there and the bearing self destructed with enough heat to remove any strength from the Dutchman shaft which allowed it to break in half just inside the bearing area! When the axle broke, the rear disk caliper kind of held it in place although the tire flopped over and dug a deep groove in the inner bead area from rubbing on the U-bolts for the axle. I had to get a friend to come out with a trailer and drag my broken ass home. That's twice I've come home on a trailer from AVF's. Both due to broken rear axle shafts. Jeff

Sounds like you had an awsome time Jeff!

Either you need to realize that Jeep isn't as strong as you think it is, or build it stonger :laugh3:

Wish I could have been there...

Hey, I just noticed that you joined!
Wecome to the club!!

We're less than two weeks out. Just wanted to remind everyone.

rules.....suck, u should only go where ur rig can go, and even the most fun ive ever had is where im not allowed to go where their is no rules, i wouldnt drive up a cliff if i knew bad things could happen....

I will be at this one...couldnt make the last one...I have a new locker and shocks that I need to try out

I'm going to take Jeff's suggestion of where to meet. When you get to the farm, there is a long narrow blacktop driveway that makes a sharp 90 at the end. Just after the 90 there will be a tent, some buildings, and a farm house in that vacinity. The tent should hold the registration table. After paying, registering and getting teched, you will drive past the farm house and up to and area where the trails start. This area is wide open field in a little valley type place. Past the valley, the main road sort of goes up to the top of a big wide open hill where people camp and they have a big bon fire at night. Let's gather 'round the bon fire pit/camping area. First person there pick out a decent spot and wave at the rest of the cherokees. We can gather there before we head out.

Btt. Myself and maybe Zuki-Ron will be heading up tomorrow and I hope to see you there!!
