Anyone want to go to Fordyce on Saturday!?

you all missed out! it was great fun, I just got back I'll have pictures and info in the Mod Tech board later tonight

I'd like to go with you just about any weekend after the rubicon run mid June. How high were the water crossings?

2 feet on the first one if you go to the left, then right to the top of my 35s on one of the other crossings

i'm too lazy to post pictures here, click the "my truck" link in my signature and go to the end of the thread

The pirate site doesn't like my e-mail address so I wasn't able to get registered on it. Cool pics, I would like to go with you on the trail, and anyone else that wants to do it. What kind of problems are you having with your arb? I almost done hooking mine up on my rev dana 30. Man that arb wiring harness is a pain to hook up. I still haven't tested it out, but there are so many wires running everywhere. I have to hook up the ignition & illumination wires and I'm converting my battery terminals to the marine style so I can stack all my aftermarket lights, winch, arb, etc to my Optima Yellow top battery. The marine style is cool because you have a bolt sticking out and can stack all your connections on to it and wing nutted it down instead of taking off the entire clamp off all the time.
So did you feel you needed it that much? I have a detroit in my dana 44 rear axle on 35" mtrs. Did you mount your compressor in your cab? I was thinking of putting in under the rear bench seat, but I got a bracket from the previous owner of it and mounted where the overflow bottle would be on pre 91' closed cooling system. It seems to be a good spot for it. I almost done installing my Lebaron hood vents. They are huge and just barely fit in the hood without cutting into the supports. My wife, brother-in-law are helping me prep the body of my xj so I can roll out the Durabak onto it. I should have it on for the Con trip in a few weeks.
Heah, you made it through the whole Fordyce trail in 1 day solo? That's an awesome trail. I got a few hours into it with a little group, but we had to turn around because we started to late on the trail and were just screwing around. The group I was with just did the Signal Peak trail, the trail right behind where your jeep was picture in the parking lot. The trail goes off right in front of the port a potties and is a decent trail that climbs to about 9K ft. Later...Troy

I didn't have the ARB hooked up because I'm not hooking it up with their switch and electronics, I'm doing it wholly pneumatic. I was still waiting on a pneumatic switch I ordered, which I got today. I am using a stock Sanden AC compressor for my OBA, with it regulated down to 90psi for the ARB. I put some of the pictures in the upload section of www.xjdb.com also

I think that is a good idea, the arb electronics are very complicated and prone to fail. I'm almost done hooking mine up for my front dana 30 and hope it works. I have a detroit in my dana 44 rear axle so I know I don't need to think about that thing working. I like the idea of having a full fledged detroit in the rear axle and an arb or so in the front, if the arb doesn't work, at least you have 3 wheel drive. How does the pneumatic switch work? Where did you order it? Do hardware stores carry something like that? Great Fordyce trail pics, wish I was able to join you. I didn't see you in the Rubicon trip poll, are you going 6/17-20? The group is going to try to do the Fordyce trail if we finish the Rubicon early enough.

it's item MJTV3 from Clippard(.com), it's just a pneumatic toggle switch with 1/8" NPT ports.

I will make the Rubicon trip almost for sure, but I haven't planned that far ahead, so I'm not sure what day I'll go in, etc.

Do you mean MjV3? I didn't see anything for mjtv3. How does that switch work. The arb wiring is a real pain. I have to still have to hook up to the ignition & illumination wiring. I hope I get it working for the Rubicon trip.

wanting to go and being able to go are getting to be soooooooo close for me. I would love to go saturday, but a lot of moons will have to align for it to happen.

Why are you having so many problems with the ARB wiring? Didn't you buy the whole ARB harness? It has pre-terminated ends, and everything plugs in without any need for crimping or anything.

I think you are over-complicating the situation.

FWIW, I am also running the clippard switches.

Yeah, I know everything is layed out in the arb wiring harness, but it seems there is a lot that can go wrong with it so it will not work. I can see where people want to go with the switch Brett & you are running. I'll see how this thing works and in the future maybe go with the Clippard switches. How do those switches work? They're not electronic?

The switch is a mechanical switch that physically shunts air from the high pressure side to the low pressure side. When you turn it off, the air that is actuating the ARB is vented out the exhaust, and the high pressure side is capped.

there are no electronics.

ARB's harness is fairly bulletproof. Just like anything else, you must make proper electrical connections with solder and sealed with shrink wrap. Grounds need to be properly terminated to a sturdy, bare metal surface.

People have been running ARB components all over the world for about 15 years with very few problems. Like I said, it's all in the installation and execution.

Thanks Andy, I know ARB has a good track record and the wiring is fairly easy to understand. I just didn't get install instructions from arb, but I downloaded some, so I hope these are accurate. I just need to hook up the ignition & illumination wiring & I should be good to go.
