Anyone still drive to the trail?

I DD my XJ and its on 35's..... Even took it on a 5 hour round trip a few weeks ago. Got 15 mpg..... Sad thing is..... I was exstatic that it did that good. Lol. For long trips we usually take the 07 JK 4 door though.

I just got a truck recently so I can tow. Even though it's not a nice heavy diesel, being just a 1500 it gets me around for as little as get to take the jeep out and gives me some piece of mind. But at the same time I use it for work too, so it's more worthwhile for me. Of course the girlfriends dad got me a set of F-250 axles (44/60) for christmas that when I can afford it I'll build up. Then maybe I'll feel a little more comfortable about driving it 4-5 hours to any of the nearest parks.

I drive my Jeep to the trails.

The worst thing that happened was when I went to the Big Dogs Run at Flat Nasty. I punctured my sidewall and had a stock size spare. Now, it was close, but still it was 2" smaller. Luckily it was the last day, but I had to drive 8 hours back home.

I just take it easy pay attention to the guy in front of me. If he makes it through, I do what he did. If he doesn't, I take a different approach.

Just curious if there are still poor fux out there like me who don't have tow rigs and probably won't, but still drive their junk to the trail?

Yes & it has plans to be driven to Moab this year. JIM.

I told Ashley (who is coming with) that we were just going to drive the XJ to Moab this year...

She decided she didn't want to go anymore.

So we'll be towing with the Commander.

I tow my xj. I already have the 3/4 ton for DD and work truck. I have a freind who lets me use trailer anytime I need. I just keep the maintenance on the trailer for him. I drive about 2 hours to get to the decent trail areas. I honestly think I get there faster when towing. I would not drive my xj 75mph+. I did not say anything about being cheaper, it's 10mpg but ohwell. That seems like a bargin since my boat gets about 2 mpg and its not boating season. Jeep = winter hobby; Boat = summer hobby

There is something about knowing that I have a ride home that is nice
