Anyone still drive to the trail?

You know, that is a very good ?. My rig has been OUTA town twice. Once for a 35 mile drive at 70mph. and the last time for the IA Meet & great. And my little bro made me bury the speedo thru town to keep up.

BUTas far as your original post, NOPE, I wheel locally, so I know I won't be stranded

I swear, ever since I got the new tire's , we haven't a bit of snow. fricking mother nathure suck's

I drive to the trail, but not because I am a "poor fux", but because I can not justify buying a Truck and a trailer, and making insurance and loan payments for something that I won't tend to use except for once and a while.

That's why I don't own an ATV, or a Snowmobile. You spend a lot of money for something you just don't use that often.

The Jeep takes me, litterally, everywhere I want to go.
Where it won't go, I likely didn't want to be in the first place ;)

I do. I have a vehicle capable of towing and a trailer I can borrow when I need it, but I get a sense of satisfaction out of driving to the trail, wheeling all day and then driving home.

Sure, I can't go full throttle on every obstacle, but that makes it more of a challenge to me. Call me weird I guess.

I'm not poor, lol, but I sure don't have the coin for any diesel or any real tow rig like that. But like you say, if it's not something I need ALL the time, it doesn't make sense.

I do have the fun is being able to make it home

I drive my beater to the trail for the most part (coming home is one thing) but where we wheel down here is only a 20 min drive or so and any thing be on that this thing is getting towed that is if I had a car trailer. I pick up a 96 F-250 PSD cheap from a bank repo so that is my tow rig.

I bought my Jeep just so I could have a vehicle I can drive every day and have fun off road with. If I wanted a trail only rig, I could have built my 85 for a lot less than my 99 cost to buy. I'm looking forward to driving to Moab, wheeling the snot out of it, and driving it back home.

I drive it.

I like the challange of having to get it home without a trailer.

I have one that sit's in the garage. The XJ sit's outside.

I'm guilty - I never liked the feeling of "hoping" to make it home. The jeep is my trail only rig - since it don't pass emissions, and my dodge is the toy hauler, though not very efficient at 9-10mpg towing with the small tires.

I have 2 XJ's so I drive one daily and wheel the other. The trail rig is still street legal, but it is not something I want to take more then a few hours from home. It has no sway bars, biased ply tires and a plethera of miles on her old worn motor (290K +). I will drive it locally or to our farm, but not usually too far from home or a trailer in case one is needed. As far as a special tow rig and trailer...well, I have my farm equipment (ie. truck and trailer) if I need something besides the Tahoe to pull with.

I do up to this point....

But, having the tow rig even the not optimal one that I do have makes the idea of a 4-5 hour trip from the Badlands home not so daunting.....

i DD'd my XJ for a few years then decided that I wanted to wheel trails that needed me to build it bigger and not really road worthy/legal. So I bought a truck and trailer and went to town. Now I DD my truck and I'm fine with that. I've always loved trucks so I'm in hog heaven. I've got my trail rig and I've got my truck.
