anyone running an Auburn LSD in an 8.25

Just wanted to talk to some one who had this. Im thinking about putting one in my daily driver and the general opinion is great for dd and better than trac lock for off road.

I've got one I've been running for about 5 months now. Much better than the trac lok I had. Work great, no noise, transparent other than when you chirp the tires to remind you it's there. It does require more maintenance (7,000 mile recommended fluid change), but I just change fluids when I do my normal 6,000 oil changes. It's not rebuildable, but you can traded it in, along with $85, to Auburn; and they send you back a factory reconditioned unit. Should last you at least 100,000 miles. You (or your installer) will have to do some minor grinding inside the pumpkin of the 8.25 for clearance. Go to www.Auburngear.com and download the installation manual for more info. While you're there, check out the exchange program under the D-Rex link.

Thanks for the info, Ivan. Hows it work off road? Im not wheelin it heavy, just dont want to be left behind;) (should this be in the 'modified' forum instead?)

I have one in mine, and it's great both off-road and on. Very little tire chirp, but it hooks up when you need it!

Spooky, Bill, you are everywhere! Very cool, that's what I'm going with, then. How do I find a good shop to put it in (about $250 labor?)?

Oh, and the fluid change, do you just pop the cover and seal it & fill it- like a normal diff fluid change right-theres no additive with this one , right?

It works great for me offroad...does what it's suppose to :)

It does require oil additive. Installation manual recommends Ford or GM additive. Again, check out the Auburn website, and down load the Installation Manual. It's got a lot of good info in it...

What Ivan said.
Use the additive. It makes it work much smoother.
As far as the install, just find a good gear mechanic that you trust. If you're keeping the same gears, all they should need to do is reset the backlash after swapping the carrier.

Auburn recommends non-synthetic with the additive. anyone fine anything better? I was going to make it synthetic all around. But I guess at everey 7000 miles, that would ju$t be a wa$te.

If you call Auburn, they very specifically recommend using a Big3 additive, stay away from the aftermarkets especially the synthetics.

Apparently, the clutch material really hates synthetics lube and friction modifier. I've been told that it will chatter like mad.

That makes sense, thanks.

And I could siphon it out, instead of cracking it open each time, right?

That's pretty much what I plan to do with mine... I siphoned the first 7,000 mile interval out, but will open the diff the next 7,000; then siphon the next 7,000. This way I can keep an eye on things. I used one of those generic fluid siphons you can pick up at most auto parts stores, but I use a stategically bent piece of flexible copper tubing (inserted into the plastic siphon hose) to reach the very low spot of the diff.

Just replace fluids with the recommended weights and be sure to add the recommended friction additive...
