Anyone here good at hunting done electrical gremlins? I need hunt down the electrical problem with my transmission. I have no clue where to start and I'm no electrical guru. So any help would be great

Its a '95 Cherokee Sport with an AW4 Trans.

I have taken it to a trans shop and they said its stuck in third gear. They also said, the trans is not getting power to it so that is why its in third gear. So they said it could either be a loose ground wire, or anything else that leads to the trans.

Thanks

I went to check this and there is no fuse inline...

Hm. Maybe they did away with it finally - did you check the underdash fuse panel as well?

I recall it being inline because I never found it in the fuse panel on my rigs - but they were all RENIX.

The fuse is in the main fuse box under the hood behind the battery.

I checked that and it fine. Anything else? I know I will have to check all wire soon if its nothing else easy. Thanks

Did you hose down your engine bay recently? Or right before this happened?

EDIT: TPS issues will cause this problem too. Sometimes hosing down your engine bay will kill the TPS. Ask Goatman about that. :shhh:

I did not water the engine bay when it happened. I was on my way back home from reno. When it started doing it. When it was snowing. Jeeps been down for about 5 months.

I took the air cleaner apart and notice that it is soaked in power steering fluid. So I took the throttle body off so I could clean it and took the tps off, and its got some fluid on it. So you think the tps is toast?

Damm bro, Sucks to see you trans is still not ok! I am sorry your rig is still down.

thanks Joe, its hard to find someone to help out. But it ok for now since I have my street bike as my DD for now but I want to get it running so I can wheel.

My bro will be here next month so maybe he can fix it while he is here. How is your build going?

Soooo how did power steering fluid get in your air cleaner:dunno: sounds like you got more than just a trans problem.

Are you quite sure it's power steering fluid, and not engine oil? Engine oil tends to accumulate on air filters due to blowby - it enters by way of the CCV system.

Well I can't say for sure that it was power steering fluid or engine oil.. All I know is that I have a major power steering leak and its is every where under the hood. So from what I could see is under the under I just suspected it to be power steering fluid. As for the trans problem it was not the TPS sensor so now I'm on to tracking down wiring issues.

My build is going great, It is taking to long i cant wait to have it going. I hope to be done my end of july.

I hope to have mine running by the middle of july.. My bro will be in town for my wedding. He is a jeep Tech so he knows what to look for.

Cool, Call me on my cell or pm me when you know whats up with your trans. Congrats on getting married!!

Ok, so me and a buddy were out testing my transmission and it seems when the transmission is in park both solenoids 1 and 2 are on, and its the same way for all gears.

So my question is, does anyone have the DRB II diagnosis tool, so I can see what kinda fault codes come up?
