I have a free weekend for once with nothing to do. I might meet up with some of the CF guys at the outpost at 10am.

Any ideas where I can park my tow rig/trailer near the Outpost?

Any one here want to go?

I shall be meeting up with some of them on Friday and staying the night. Cant bring the jeep but ill be in a grey yota with a tan soft top.

Yep, I recognize your screen name from CF. I'm hoping some locals will travel down with me as well. I will be there based on the weather.

I won't be able to make it. Headed to the beach for the weekend on Thursday.

There's plenty of parking for a tow-pig and trailer at the outpost in the little field next to the gas pumps. Can't miss it. Or if you prefer, there's more parking at the entrances to some of the main trails. Grab a map when you go inside the outpost to get your trail pass(es). They're free and are pretty accurate.

I'll not be around either. Need to think about going to get that trailer I guess.

I wish I could come out to meet and greet but the red rocket isn't ready and I picked up a new DD today (thread coming) and won't be legal until Monday.

I hope you have a good time. Let us know what you think. Are you going to do Daniel? Last time we were there Kodak rock on Rocky Mountain Loop was closed but you can pick some fun lines on a hill on Dickey Bell. Most of the park is just trail riding through the woods. The new trail or section that opened is a fun ride but i cant remember the name right now, Saw Mill maybe? Someone should know what im talking about. Enjoy it!

Thanks! I plan on having a good time! I've been told by Hadfield that URE is easy compared to Potts Mountain as far as public trails go. I'm use to rocks and I hear its not all that rocky there so I might get fooled.

Hopefully I will not flop and my tranny lives to see one more day LOL!

You shouldn't flop (Never say never). Ure is somewhat like trail-bump-trail-bump-trail-bump-trail-hey look, rocks!-trail-bump-trail-bump.......

LOL! yeah! Potts is more like a relentless beating for 8 miles! with some scenic views along with the banging and beating.

I had a blast! Although nothing at Uwharrie is as tough as Potts Mountain its still fun! I found the ledge at Daniel to make the butt pucker a bit but once I wiggled into the right line it crawled right up. The climb on Dickie Bell was fun. All around a great day

Special thank you to Nick(themauler) for being my trail guide today!

I didn't flop and the tranny lived to see another trail ride!

Well met XJtrailrider at the outpost. Sorry we didnt meet up again to wheel was kinda looking forward to wheeling with you. By the time we rolled out to Daniel you guys must have already ran it. I just now got home. I was having clutch issues with my Yota due to it being worn out. So we went back to the campsite to drop it off and pick up one of my buddy's jeeps. We ended up running every trail out at URE. I ran everything except Daniel at night the night before in the Yota. Was good fun, a bit more washed out than I had liked and def more soupy than I had expected. Also we ran Daniel one last time before I went home and some random straggler following us in an XJ grenaded a driveshaft. We spent the next 2 hours winching him out and helping him fix the shaft. All in all it was a great trip. Camping last night was miserable though.

Sam, it was good to meet you all. I wish we could have wheeled together. Nick and I waited at Daniel for a good 30-40min after airing down and disconnecting.

We ran almost everything. There were rigs of all kinds broke down and blown up all over the place. Saw a YJ that needed a CPS, a Trooper that needed a rear DS, plenty of rigs that needed to be locked and weren't! That one trail that has the hill climb in a tunnel was taking its toll on 4x4's and ATV's.

Did you guys go up the front side or the backside of Daniel? We only ran the back side "easy side." Yup we ran also into the Yj that needed a new CPS also. I think all in all we saw about 5 rigs that had to be winched or towed off of the trails today. Also the hill climb I think you are referring to was Dutch John. Its real dug out and rutted out like crazy. We didnt even attempt to run that portion of the trail. None of us were locked and one of the guys that met up with us today had never ran URE before.

We ran the front side where the Humvee was sitting at the 5 point turn. It took me two attempts to get my line right but once i got it, it crawled right up. That ledge is a lot like "The Stacks" at Potts mountain, just gotta get the right line on it. Nick had some trouble with it but he finally just full throttled it and made it. Dutch John was slick as owl shit! Going up or down! I spent as much time sideways as I did going straight! I love the trails there. Nothing real hard, just fun!

I had a great time! My thoughts on URE are that its a fun place to wheel not a hard place to wheel. The ledges at Daniel were a bit challenging until the line was figured out. The hill climb on Dickey Bell was fun I don't think I spun a tire though. We ran Dutch John, it was slick since it just rained before we hit the trail. We ran the new trail and a few others. I think we hit almost all of them except one or two.

I didn't get pics of Daniel but I did on a few of the other trails.

Lol...every time I see that section of Dutch John I think back to when Sam and I got caught in that horrendous storm last summer on that trail. Good times!

Glad ya'll had fun. I'm curious to get up there now and see what shape the trails are in with all this rain.

The Uwharrie Workday for July was on Saturday as well...not sure if you guys saw them out there or not.

Yep! When we went in Daniel they were there doing some surveying(A guy in a white Humvee and a few others) He told us we probably would have to winch up so we took that as a challenge and made it up LOL! Nice guys though.

The trails are slick and by the looks of things the erosion is bad up there. I know from my experience working with the NFS here in VA, they would have already shut Potts down at this point. Dutch John is a good example of bad erosion and a poorly placed trail route. The water just runs right down it.

I don't know who your ranger is in charge of the trail system up there but they are doing a lot of arguing with the greenies to keep that system open for you all.

I hope to see it stay open, the trails are a lot of fun. It would have been more fun in a smaller XJ, maybe on 31's.

Glad you enjoyed it. We have an awesome group of rangers. Erosion is a major concern and they have been fighting hard to keep some of the trails open while we work on controlling that erosion. Kodak got closed because of indian(?) artifacts.

I haven't been on Dutch John during after rain. Looks like I am missing out on some throttle happy time. Hey... URE mud is much better to take home than URE dust.

Yea URE is in Danger and a lot of the hard line guys have written it off. I still go there and still wheel there and will continue to do so. It's 70 miles from my shop.... I love it even with 42's until Kodak section closed there was something that keep me challenged. This is the last NFS that we have in NC really. Hate I was out of town and missed wheeling with you. They are looking at actually opening new trails there. It is a long slow process though. The area is rich with Indian artifacts from what I have heard. Glad you had fun if you guys come back post up and I'll try and make it up.

I felt bad running Dutch John in the rain but we were on the trail and committed when the rain started. It had been relatively dry to that point and Dickey Bell was actually a little dusty.

Glenn, will do!
