any of you local guys ever run into emissions trouble?

if I convert to a newer HO head and manifold I'll have to do away with the EGR, anyone ever catch a hard time from the emissions folks on that?

I haven't ever seen the emissions techs specifically look for the EGR. Usually they are tasked with checking for a catalytic converter and charcoal canister, but usually they don't spend alot of time under the hood. Personally, I think most vehicles run better without the EGR, so your e-test should be ok.

I keep hearing that rumor too, but I can't find any info about the State even considering eliminating the e-tests.

Here's what the DMV has on their website:

Enhanced program area consists of the full counties of Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson as well as parts of the counties of Adams and Arapahoe.

Basic program area consists of parts of the counties of Larimer, Weld and El Paso.

Please contact the respective county clerk's office for assistance to determine if you reside in or out of the program area in the partial counties of Adams (303.654.6010), Arapahoe (303.795.4500), El Paso (719.520.6240), Larimer (970.498.7878) or Weld (970.353.3840).

Tests for 1982 and newer vehicles in the seven Denver area counties (enhanced area) are done by Envirotest Inc., doing business as (d.b.a.) Air Care Colorado. Tests for 1981 and older vehicles may go to Air Care Colorado or independent testing facilities within the Enhanced area. Vehicles registering in the three basic area counties may be tested at Basic area stations or Air Care stations.

My roomie is an ase at weld county garage, and I understand colorado is doing away with all passenger car emissions testing as of 1-1-07. jim

that sucks. I had a V8 swap in an RX7 I sold to someone out of state last year because I couldn't get it through emissions.

When my 87 Cherokee went through emissions testing nothing was said about the lack of EGR. My 87 has the complete 94 motor but the guys didn't even care or notice.

I got dinged a few years back for having an '84 EFI turbo motor in an '82 carbed Mustang. 6-dollar-an-hour slack jaw could actually read the emissions diagram under the hood.(this is @ Envirotwits) Failed it on the spot despite ALL the emissinos crap was there and hooked up, "cause it aint got a smog pump." Idiots... E-testing is only going away in Larimer county is what I read. Oh happy day for me!

I guess per the EPA as long as the motor is newer than the chassis and all emiss. comps are there it's A-OK but it's got to go up to the office in denver to be inspected and they update the VIN in the computer to reflect the new motor. Sounded like a PITA to me.

They've been talking about losing it in El Paso county for awhile, since our air quality is generally good.
I've got two that require emissions for renewal as we speak, including the 99 which I thought was exempt when new.

It's just a pain to get away from work.

I just had a 2.3L Mustang tested yesterday here in El Paso County and I talked to the tech and he stated that he received a letter that his emissions testing license and VIN verifacation license will no longer be valid beginning the first of the year. So far that is the only real proof I have heard about the end of emissions testing.

Emissions trouble? I re-built my 90 XJ 4.0L I-6 engine after it repeatedly failed emissions. Then, about a month later, the Catalytic converter failed; but after 270,000 miles what do you expect. The engine never fails emissions if I tune it up before a e-test, do regular oil changes, and use quality gasoline.
