The idea must be catching on ... or the off-road community is waking up to the need for positive publicity. The following came in from the land use coordinator of a local club:
For those who have attended any of our rides in the Mohawk Trail area, this is NOT our usual meeting place, but it's not hard to find.
I'd like to get some representatives of to attend. It's for a good cause, and there are some great trails in this region so anything that will help public perception will help keep them available to us.
But there's a more selfish motive for wanting to be visible. Because of trail closures and land sales, local clubs around New England are very secretive about trails and trail locations. This has been THE biggest stumbling block to organizing more events for the chapter in the northern part of our territory. If we can let other clubs in the region know that we exist, that we're serious wheelers and not out to trash the environment and get people mad at all wheelers, we may be able to get information about where the good trails are, which will help us provide more and better events for our membership.
So ... please, anyone who can make it to this clean-up day, come on out.
If people who can attend will contact me, I'll forward a roster to the guy who sent me the information.
Thank you

Florida & Adams MA
SATURDAY APRIL 24th @ 9:00 am
The Town of Florida has requested our help in cleaning a road with lots of debris and white goods. We will also be cleaning East Hoosac St where the Old Florida RD trailhead on the Adams side is located. We also plan on sending a group down Old Florida RD with 2 trucks and a group on foot.
Please remember to bring gloves, drinks, and a lunch. We will provide trash bags and some water, but it may be warm so bring your own water also just to be safe. We will have access to one of the town’s Transfer Stations as well as a location with a roll off trash container for the other town. We need pickup trucks and Jeeps with winches!!!!!
Please RSVP as soon as possible to Scott Hatch at [email protected] with your intended attendance and what type of vehicle (IF ANY) you would like to use. We will determine what vehicle goes where in order to most efficiently clean these areas. Some vehicles may be left at the meeting spot if we have an overwhelming number.
DIRECTIONS to MEET SPOT
For those in the know, this is the standard meeting area for trail rides in this area.
From the East Follow Rt 2 West over Whitcomb Summit into Florida. Not far from there will be a State Forest sign telling you to go left down Central Shaft Road. Follow the State Forest signs on Central Shaft Road past the campground and continue about 1 ¾ miles more to a sandy parking lot on the left (use the CB, we’ll hear you). If you’re coming from North Adams (west to east), look for Central Shaft Road on your right a couple miles after you make the hairpin turn.
From CT Take I-91 North into Massachusetts to exit 26 Rt. 2 West then follow directions above
From NH Take I-93 or Rt. 3 South to I-495 south to exit 29B Rt. 2 West then follow directions above
