Another oil filter adapter question

On my '96 XJ, I noticed the oil filter is really a PITA to take out and reinstall, as opposed to the '92 that is tilted up and incredibly easy to change. I would like to get a hold of another adapter for the '92 and put it on the '96. The layout under the hoods of both vehicles is nearly identical, so I don't believe there would be an issue of something getting in the way. Why Chrystler changed it from the '92 configuration is beyond me. Has anybody done this or heard of it being done?

No, but here's an email a saved:

Hi Gang, following TJ Tip

Just wanted to put out a public thanks to Bill Mish for pointing out that
Fram's LARGER PH8A oil filter is a drop in replacement for the MUCH SMALLER
PH16 that is specified. I purchased and am getting ready to install the
PH8A and sure enough; it will drop right in.

For all I know, this may be a good tip for YJ owners as well... I didn't
look to see what filter they use.

Once again, thanks for pointing this out Bill.

Kind Regards,

Any thoughts on if it will work for a 93 XJ?

Cross reference your current filter at Checker or Auto Zone to find out.

I havent checked, but it might work. When you get your kit, try the filer, might use a bit more oil in block.

I've used the PH8A in my 96 for about a year or so. I think all the HO engines used the PH16 filter; the Renix used a (PH3985?).

It says not to break the tab, what if I already did? It is on a block in the shop for rebuild, but I got to deal with it when it returns.
