anyone ever run an engine conversion through the EPA here?

I need to run the car through once i get the engine in but I don't know if there are any tricks to get them to pass it.
chassis is a 93, engine a 2000 so I shouldn't have problems there.

I'd be careful there... I ran a carbed '82 Mustang through with a later model EFI turbo motor(with all the emissions crap from the donor car) and it failed. "That ain't the right motor for this car, it ain't got a smog pump like the sticker says..." No tailpipe test, just fail because of a sticker! Envirotwits actually make you go to the state and they inspect it in the case of engine swaps. My advice, just don't say anything. As far as tricks to make it pass, I've used the "Garunteed-Ta-Pass-Emishuns" stuff they sell at Checker/AutoZone/Advanced with good results. I over concentrated it though, like one bottle for 2 gallons instead of 20. Works miracles! Just be sure to burn it off asap as it may damage your injectors and the what not.(I have experience with too) I'm so glad I moved to Larimer county and don't hafta deal with that nonesense anymore! :)

The factory motor was a rotary, the new motor is an LS1, a very clean engine actually. it will certainly run cleaner than the roto but won't pass the visual, they know better suprisingly.

it has to go to the EPA, be inspected, and they change the VIN in the computer but I don't know their phone number or how to start the process, I know just the very tip of what I need to I guess.

Yes I have done it twice. As long as the engine was later than the original and you bring along all the sensors and computer stuff, it was a breeze. I had to make an appointment and took it to the local state run testing station. They did a complete visual on it. They then hooked it up on their emissions tester and verified it was working. Now that we don't have emission testing locally, they closed down the state run facility.

You never know... I tried to tell them that the turbo was indeed the "air pump" but the $5.75hr monkey didn't buy it! :) Little more difficult rotary to v-8. From what I understand though the state guys are pretty sharp,(unlike the test stations) so just have your ducks in a row. Hehe, I took my last Spitfire to envirotwits with a set of non-radio-supressor wires on it. It threw sooooo much distortion you could not listen to a radio within 10ft of it. good times playing dumb and watching....
