Acceleration issue sometimes

Sometimes when i drive my 98 jeep xj and i press down on the gas the rpm meter goes up but its like its not registering and then when it does move it does a quick spurt of speed then it feels like a stall almost accept the car is still running. It usually only happens when i first start the car and begin to move. It feels like you step on the gas for a second then release it then just keep pushing down then letting go.

Does it take a long time to start? If so then it's your fuel pump check valve, your fuel lines are draining back into the tank and when you go to take off from a start the fuel pump hasn't fully pumped all of the air out of the fuel line and it's running out of fuel for a second. I also bet that it does it most often durring times of the jeep not fully cooling off (like a trip into the liquor store.)

Ive got a better idea. Its your idle air control motor. Its bolted to the throttle body. Replace it and your problems should go away. Common XJ thing

What is considered a long time to start? Also is their anyway to check if it is the fuel pump check valve? Are the RPMs any indication of a bad fuel pump check valve? My idle RPMs are about 6-700

BTW: It is a 98 jeep cherokee

Well, on my 99 with 160k, new battery and original starter, it takes literally two full engine revolution. Less than one second. RurrrrRurrr and boom she's started. Normal idle spec is 600-800rpms.
