a few more thoughts about our vets....

nobody of any consequence
By Rush Limbaugh

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September
11 casualty and those who die serving the country in uniform are profound. No
one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize
anything having to do with September 11.

Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really
disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a
family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of
$1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to
$4.7 million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action,
the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is
taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving
spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a

payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits
18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185
million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma
City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the
September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families
of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel of
over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad.

Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next
to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East
while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent
housing.

However, our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise, and many of you
don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a
pension that is more than $15,000 per month, and most are now equal to being
millionaires plus. They also do not receive Social Security on retirement
because they didn't have to pay into the system.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7,
you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed
you in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month. I would like to see
our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start
cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now
fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this?"
.............................. thank a vet.... have a safe weekend ........ mike

I never EVER thought I'd say this, but, "Ditto here Rush." Life in the Army had its rewards, but none of them financial. I was a bachelor while I was in, and puttin' up with ancient, cramped, nasty housing on your own is one thing. Having to do it with a family is wholey another. Folks are barely scrapin' by, and it's a damn shame.

The pay, especially for enlisted personnel, is a national disgrace, but it's nothing compared to the way they treat you later.

When Vietnam vets began to experience the symptoms of having been poisoned with Agent Orange, the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs stonewalled and tried to just make it all go away. Those poor guys were never treated right.

Then we have the troops who were in the Gulf War. "Gulf War Syndrome" -- I know a young lady who was a medic over there, and she has it. Do you think the government will acknowledge it? Hell, no. They spent years trying to make everyone believe it was all psychosomatic.

The VA is even trying to cut benefits and reduce care for veterans of WW2 and the Korean War (those who are left). Those are the guys who were promised free medical care for life. Now that they need it, the government wants to take it away.

The way our government treats veterans is a much bigger shame than the lousy salary we pay when they're in.

remember to buy a poppy from a vet in front of walmart(or where ever you shop) this week.... and write your congressmen and senators adout a WWII veterans memorial.... wouldnt it be nice to unveil a monument to them while they are still with us? i just get all sentimental when memorial day rolls around.....

The WWII Memorial WILL be unvailed a year from this weekend, June 29, 2004 to be exact on the National Mall! The calls letters and donations worked!!!! You don't need to bother you Congressmen and Senators about that any more!

I am a Desert Storm vet, some of those guys and girls claiming Gulf War Syndrom are full of crap, others have legit concerns and problems, but no one knows what might be causing the troubles. But think about this, read the bible (old testiment), the Middle East was lush 3-4000 years ago, now it is a Desert, could whatever caused that still be causeing trouble? Just something to think about.

Have a great Memorial Weekend and thank your grandfathers for their work and sacrafice to give us such amazing freedom!

Gulf War syndrome comment:

I read an article very recently about the west-nile virus. According to the article, it is very common in parts of the African continent. Most children are infected when very young (kind of like chicken pox here). The symptoms when very young are not anything like they are when you're older. Almost no one in the US population has any immunity to the west-nile virus. Therefore, we are suffering for it.

I think that the gulf war syndrome is very similar. It's probably a virus that the people over there have been building up an immunity against for thousands of years.

I'm afraid that the guys coming back in the next months are going to start having the same symptoms.

well i must admit to being ill-informed about the WWII memorial..... thanks for setting me straight dennis.... write your congressman anyways..... its a good habit...
