I rented a HB puller/installer from advance auto parts, and ended up with one of the round, disk shaped ones.

None of the screws thread correctly into my existing HB. They are all either slide right through or only thread 1-2 times. I'm assuming I have the wrong puller/installer.

From what I've read online, the correct puller/installer has the duck foot shaped tool (like a Y and I superimposed), and not the disk with holes. Is this the puller/installer I should be using:

Also, I bought a new HB from the dealer, and it came with the note about removing the crank seal oil slinger when using the new (33002920AC) HB. I googled around and couldn't find anything recent or relevant. I'd rather not remove timing cover at this point, so is it really necessary?

The tool pictured in the link is the one I've used.

I am not sure about the slinger. I don't remember any notes when I bought my HB from the dealer and don't remember any slingers either.

I swapped for that puller yesteday and had the HB off within an hour. Amazing what the right tool will do.
