Help! My daughter ran out of gas today. I filled the tank and there is gas in the hose to the rails, but it won't start. Gauges are not working either! I had it towed home. Now what? Thanks.
She ran out of fuel on the road correct? what where the symptoms when it failed? When a cherokee runs out of gas it will usually try to start or even weakly run but will not drive.
When you crank it over now what exactly does it do?
fuel pump prolly out i got a 99 classic and my fuel pump weep hole will not hold pressure if i take left turns low on gas itll cut out and i turn the key 3 times to on before i start it to build pressure in the line hope this helps sorry about the run on.....
She said all power steering stopped and she coasted to the side of the road (up hill slope). No gauges are working now. When you crank it, it turns over - does not start, no gauges come up - except oil pressure.
No bus on the cluster means that the cluster module is not communicating with the PCM or any other modules. Could be a number of things, but that is an indication of a problem.
From the limited research I just did, the NO bus on the odo probably means your daughter has fried the engine computer, they are not cheap but easy to replace. you can find at a junk yard for around 150.00 used or at dealer for around 450.00

Bad advice. Again, a no bus message on the cluster indicates that the cluster is not getting bus signals from the PCM. It could be a problem with the cluster, or the PCM, or wiring, among other things. The common problem of gauges dropping out, or airbag light coming on late 90's models, is sometimes also accompanied by the "no bus" message on the cluster. In that case, though it doesn't prevent the vehicle from running, the reason that message is displayed is that there is intermittent or no continuiuty through the bus circuit at the cluster electrical connector. A more thorough check is needed before you start replacing things like PCM's, which your local dealer will not likely take back, should you use it as a test part. You open the box, you own it. I witnessed a similar example of this type of diagnosis when I worked as a Jeep tech. Another tech replaced the fuel filter, then the pump, then a PCM because there was no pressure at the fuel rail, and the pump would not run. Nearly $1000 in parts later, I showed him how a fuel pump relay functions and how to verify that the computer is trying to energize the relay. All those parts, and most of his eight hour work day were wasted because he didn't check the five dollar relay first.
