94 Seat Swap - red neck style

Long time reader, first time call, er, poster.

First, I know the "usual" seats will not work... I read the forum, bought the seats, then re-read the forum and saw the "fine print" of 95+. RTFM2 :twak:

I thought "not all is lost" since I had seen a forum post that had the seat bars from Chrysler Parts. Well, they don't sell them any more. :bawl:

Now I'm thinking "I live in Indiana, redneck heaven!" My new idea is to cut THIS (a 1" x 3", 0.065" Wall Bar Steel) and weld it in. Has anyone tried this and do you think it will be strong enough to hold the front mounting point of the newer seats? :helpme:

No, Florida is redneck heaven. So are you swapping 94 seats into a 95+? You know you can just unbolt the seat from the base and swap them, right?

You should be able to make some brackets out of some angle iron.

Yeah, but what if I want to put in some heated leather WJ seats some day? It will never happen but what if? See, that's the problem with Jeeps, too many "if"s.

If I went the bracket route I could conceivably just use a flat piece of steel, drill 8 holes and bolt it together.

You can quite possibly make a bracket that simply bolts in with re-enforced mounts. And then bolt the seat to that. I'm getting ready to put some corbeau seats in once I get em ordered.

I cut the mounts that fit the floor off the original tracks, and built a bracket to adapt them to the tracks that came with my ZJ seats.

With a welder, anything is possible

What about something like THIS, a peice of angle steel that is pre drilled. I could just cut it and drill a hole, pimer the metal then bolt it in. Would it be strong enough to withstand an accident, though? It states it should not be welded, so perhaps with three bolts in the floor (per seat mount) if one were not enough?

And naturally I'd just run to Menards and pick it up.

USe some real steel, not that! Anything thicker than the frame would be just fine i'm sure. That galvanized stuff is not strong enough.
