Cottontail

Three-De Off-Road
Location
Nashville, TN
Ok...in the 1990 XJ

I have replaced:

New fuel (was a year old)
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New ballast resistor
New plugs
New plug wires
New battery
New battery cables
New thermostat
New coolant overflow bottle
New distributor
New CPS

Now, the symptom are that it starts, revs to high idle a few seconds and dies. Does that each and every time that it starts.

What next?

Vaccuum leak?
Jeep on!

I´d check one end of the ballast resistor for battery voltage and about 9-10 volts on the other end, with the ignition in the run position, motor not running. Sure sounds like a bad ballast resistor, but seeing as it´s new maybe the battery voltage to the ballast resistor isn't there. The fuel pump relay,or an open circuit, could be causing no power to the ballast resistor.
Had a buddy who had a 92 that sat for over a year, would hardly start, when it did, it would stall out. It had good pressure, but poor flow. To make a long story short (it took a couple of days to figure it out),I had a hunch, I blew through the fuel line (both ends disconnected) with compressed air and a glob of partially solidified snot came out the other end. Possible, but not likely, I´ve only seen it once.
Maybe a fuel flow and pressure test, would tell you something.
