'89 starter on a '98?

I already searched the forums and did not find the info I was looking for. Basically like the title says, will a starter from an '89 4.0 work on my '98 4.0? Thanks in advance for any help.

My info says NO- 87-96 will interchange,97-02 interchange.

S'funny - my starter and alternator shop only lists one part number for 4.0 starters - so I'd be inclined to think it was possible.

Of course, this is for replacement parts, which are allowed a little more lattitude in specifications, and aftermarket and replacement parts manufacturers actually try to make a little more sense of things...
