i am have a 4.7 long block coming... i would like to know what sother people used to build up there eng. my donor was a 90 4.0. i want to get the most out of the eng without going broke. brakets,ac ,covers....ok.
what:header, exhaust, ignition, throttle body, injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail....also will my 1990 intake manifold flow ok? i have gotten alot of mixed opinions having the pre HO for a build up. what ever yall think i would like to here it. i am in the army and am going to the middle east in about 10 hrs but please respond as i can check over there.if anyone has any parts 4 sale that will aid in my build up let me know.:compwork: again thanks for the help

Many prefer the Renix for a stroker. Due to the ping sensor. For me the key was decking the block around .020 and using the thin head gasket to get the quench height around .060. I can run the cheapest gas out there with no problems.

I am running the Crane cam for low rpm torque and Clifford headers. At this altitude, the 25# injectors were a touch on the high side.

some of the things I"d suggest, clifford header, stock ignition, high flow cat and muffler with 2.5" pipe, 62mm TB, injectors arround 24lb I use the ford motorsport #24's, stock fuel rail, intake? good question, mine's a HO.

yes, you can, im building my stroker out of a high output engine, and putting it in a renix jeep....should be done this week :D

ok i'm back from kuwait. thanks for all of the replys. so is the stock ignition fine or should i run a jacobs( is it worth the money?) 23lb inj ...i have that old school fuel rail with the fpr on the end of it.... will that work?i herd a 99 intake flows better too? but if i bolt it up to my 90 engine will i have modify any brackets? i am going to start ordering the rest of my good today and tomorrow. i would like to order from one shop any ref? ebay, summit... local junk yards. thanks again for all of the help. i'll keep yall posted on the build up.:passgas:

If you want to build a strong-running stroker without breaking the bank, you can copy my HO stroker but with the following differences:

Shave 0.010" from block deck
Ported Renix head
Renix intake manifold (same Ford 24lb injectors)
58mm bored Renix TB
Stock ignition + Magnecor 8.5mm plug wires
Stock fuel pump & fuel pressure regulator

If you don't have money for a header now, you can always add one later. The Clifford header looks very good.

So can you put a 99+ Intake Manifold on a renix head? (Is there a Port difference? Headers Issues ect ) And can you use the renix FPR and rail with the 99+ intake? The question remains.....

There are several issues with using the '99+ manifold on the Renix head that you need to be aware of:

1. The intake runners don't line up exactly with the head ports, so you'll need to cut the dowel locating pins to be able to align the manifold properly.
2. If you use the '99+ intake, you'll need a HO TB so you'll have to adapt your Renix TPS to fit the HO TB. If the TB is a '96+ model, you'll need to plug the MAP sensor vacuum port.
3. You can use the Renix FPR but the Renix injector rail won't fit. To solve that one, get the '91-'95 HO injector rail, FPR, and fuel supply/return lines to make it a clean install.
4. The Renix PS pump bracket won't fit on the '99+ manifold without some major modification.

Thanks Dino, Looks like I might "Extrude Hone" my intake when I do my stroker this summer. I have a friend that can get this done for me. I will port and polish the head, done enough porting and polishing on big and small blocks know some of the tricks. any new ones for 4.0? EDIT: WHOOPS, I guess its been a while since I looked at your complete site Dino. Should have known I could find it there. Thanks for all the great info.

Mine is a Renix stroker in my '88. I use the stock fuel rail, stock fpr and stock fuel pump, with 24# Ford injectors. I started with a bumped up fpr and 21# Jeep injectors, but when the fpr went out I went back to stock fpr and 24# injectors. I have the stock manifold with the bored 58mm throttle body, and Clifford header, and the popular Crane cam. I'm real happy with how it runs. This was budget, so no decking of the block and stock pistons, so compression is 10-1 and I have to run premium.

how did stock pistons make your compression so high?

When the cylinder volume goes up with the increased displacement but the combustion chamber volume stays the same the compression ratio goes up. To keep the compression ratio down the pistons need to be dished to increase combustion chamber volume, so the ratio between cylinder volume and combustion chamber volume is less.

I have few last selections to make for my stroker. My Jeep is used for low rpm crawling so low end torq is preferred.

Cam: should I use Crane #753905 with higher lift or Crane #750501? With 753905 I obviously need to change valve springs but 750501 should accept standard (existing) ones. Correct? Is there any substance in using higher lift in my application?

What is your opinion of using standard injectors instead of purchasing 24lb/hr stuff? Repeat, no high HP with high revs, but low rpm and torq.

If I were as rich as I am poor, so no "free" bucks available!
