High-Output 4-litre engine. As used in the XJ Cherokee from 1987 on, the straight-6 (the 1984-1986 V6 is not the engine you're asking about). Only post-'91 (IIRC) received the HO designation due to its improved power output. A condensed history of the Cherokee (including powertrain options) can be found here.

I have the 4.0L engine's rated power outputs listed here. The High Output designation was given to '91+ 4.0 engines that were rated at 190hp (up from 177hp in the '87-'90 engines).
