4.0 Head builders, I need guidance.

I noticed this on one of the rocker stands:



It's a Renix head that was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago, and run.

Is it still usable? Should it be machined?

Also, any online references for DIY mild porting of 4.0 heads, and intakes?

Should be fine. There is still enough meat for the rocker pedestal to sit on. Don't mill it down as that would change the rocker to valve geometry.

Like Chris said, just leave it well alone. It'll be fine.

Thanks. I didn't know when I asked if there was a pedestal or not. Neither of my jeep engine books showed them or talked about them during assembly. All of my manuals were outside in the dark and the cold. I found out about the pedestal when looking for parts on Amazon.

I've got to do some more reading. The head is sitting in my basement, so it's a good evening, winter project until I can actually work outside on the jeep. No garage, just a driveway.

Just remove that stray dog hair and put it together :wave:
