241J not going into gear???

I have a Christmas gift from my lovely fiance I'm working on. It's a '90 XJ with the 241 transfer case. Last night I put it into 4wd and all the transfer case did was make noise like the gears were't engaging. I tried to put it into 4wd FT, PT, LOW and back to 2WD but no luck. Had to tow it back into my garage. Any thoughts why??

disconnect the linkage from underneath and try to shift the tcase by hand, it may need to be adjusted.

I assume you mean 242.

Yeah I mean the 242, I tried to edit it but the button is not there. The admin must have disabled the link.
