That's right folks. I have a 2001 4.0L from my wifes Wrangler sitting in my Garage and I want it out, very soon. The motor has only 70K miles on it.
That is the good news, now for the bad. There is something majoly wrong with it. I pulled it because it started making noise. For about 4 weeks it was using about 1 gallon of coolant per day. It started slow and I though it was a heater core leak. The heater core was leaking but replacing it did not stop the Jeep from using coolant. It actually started getting worse. I found a hose that was leaking a bit and though that may be it, no luck. It got to the point of about a gallon a day. We were also having oil pressure problems. That last day the motor was run it would not get any oil pressure and started making noise. So I put in a motor from a GC with 20K miles.
When I pulled the valve cover the oil in there was the consistency of thin pudding. The rocker arms were wipped out, but just at the fulcrum, the rocker tips were fine. After the motor was out I pulled the pan. When I tryed to drain the oil nothing came out at first. When I got the pan off there was a pan full of pudding. This explained the oil pressure problem.
Problem is I cannot identify where the water was entering the block. No tell tail signs on the gasket, no clean combustion chamber, no visible cracks, etc. The good thing is, that other than the rockers everything else looks really good. Cam is not wiped out, rod and mains bearings still look good, etc. Could have just been a head gasket? I don't know. For the price you could pick it up and have the motor and head pressure checked. If one is bad you could pitch it and just be out the price of the check.
Anyway, if no one wants it it is going to the dump very soon. I am not willing to ship it or deliver it any further than the dump so it would be local pick up. This is just for the long block. No intake, exhaust, brackets, etc. It is a chance to get a possibly good late model head and block for free though.
