Did the temp guage get anywhere near the norm when you had it running this last time? Do you recall putting your hand on the large radiator line going to the top of the radiator when it was ruuning? Was it hot or cold? If you answer no, yes, and cold I would say its the water pump.

The unit that nipple threads into is called a wheel cylinder. You will need to replace the unit. A new one should cost you no more than $15.00. I don't think you can run a tap into it and clean up the threads. good luck
