My guess is that the power goes to the rear first to get the vehicle moving, then goes to the front. This would explain why it won't go into drive in 4H or 4L. I am sure that once it gets the other driveshaft on, it'll be okay (At least I hope so). Maybe the loud pop was from the locker...
I swapped in a Dana 44 today but my rear driveshaft is too long, so I took it off so I can get it cut tomorrow. I put the transmission in reverse and had it in full time 4 wheel and slowly started to back out of the garage. I heard a pop, or more of a bang. Now when I try to go into foreward...
I can't believe this thread is still alive. Yes I recalibrated my spedometer as well and yes I have an overhead console that reads within 2 tenths of a mile for a full tank. If we had the chart....maybe it wouldn't have gotten this far.
Maybe we could go MacGyver on them and make a small bucket full of miscelaneous nails, bearings, and oil and have a small pull release inside similar to the XJ headlight. Makes me smile thinking of the possibilities. It is one thing to be followed closely by a ricer...try a lovely Texas dually...
I need the Dana 44 parking brake levers out of each drum. All these conversions and no one has any? Please help a fellow XJ'er out. Let me know if you have them and how much you want for them. I have a Dana 44 sitting in my garage ready to install with NO brakes.....
I was contemplating putting the rear disc on the 44, but for the time being, I am going to put the new brakes and hardware that I had already purchased on. The problem is, I may have inadvertantly thrown away my parking brake levers that were connected to the old drums. If anyone has done the...
Most of the Jeep Cherokees already had the exhaust manifold replaced due to a factory recall of the manifold cracking, so chances are it is already fixed. I bet the O2 sensor is going bad if you have close to 80K miles. Last time I checked it should be replaced around that time. I'de...
I personally won't go to a BFG. I think you pay for the name more than the duty. I had a set of Michelin AT and they were as loud as my mud terrains. I bought Kumho Venture MT and have loved every minute. I have 20K miles and they still look brand new. I would bet that I'll get 60 out of...
Good one Chuck....looks like you could help me with the 3K posts you have. Ha ha. I have been trying to figure out all this gearing now for 6 months. I'de like to get my mileage back as well, but I'de like to have the power it had from the factory. I guess you could also put on that the...
Why hasn't someone put a chart on here with people builds and the gears and mileage figures? I have searched and haven't made up my mind on gearing on the same issue. Someone either says 4.10's are the bare minimum and others say that 4.56 is the only way to go. The chart should have year...
