I used to cycle my glow plugs 2 or 3 times when it was cold. Made a big differance and not so hard on the starter. Do you plug it in a couple of hours (use a timer) before you need it?

Could be bad ground wire but for a easy check I would clean the battery and the battery clamps off real good,make both end nice and shiny and try again

Get your propblem fixed yet, The diesel injection system is a Bosch VE so look that up on the net for tuning the system up. Any more questions fire back and I'll se if I can dig up my old info that might help. Jim

The injection system is VW its a Bosch VE series.Look under VW on the net. Also it is mechanical other then one wire for fuel shutoff. Of course the fuel pump is electrical.

Hi I was the proud owner of both a 86MJ and a XJ.Watch out for the timing belt if it breaks you lose rocker arms and possibly bent valves as this is a interferance(sp) motor. Had it happen ,luckly I had some spare parts when I bought the basket case XJ.Use purolater oil filters best for this...
