well, I have narrowed the noise down to the rear of the engine. IT sounds like it is near the head though. I did look at the flex plate bolts but I didn't put a wrench on them. I will soon though.

I don't know how extensive of a rebuild your talking here. But yes you can get the U-joints, ball joints, bearings etc. from NAPA. If your talking of diving inside the front axle itself I'd suggest buying parts for a specialty drivetrain parts house.

I Think with the high lift bumper adaptor you can lift your XJ with it. and yes you can use it as a winch if you attach chains or a strap to it. I havn't tried but I doubt it will fit under your rear seat.
