    transfer case problems...

ahh... should have re-read joe's original answer, thanks. just to clarify, into 4hi: while moving, best bet while stopped, not so bad with tires spinning, bad plan

    transfer case problems...

so i've pretty conclusively determined it is in fact a linkage problem. took it out in the parking lot last night, and with 10" of snow i wasn't too afraid to play with it some. i found that if i shift it right, it goes in and out of 4 wheel very reliably. it'll need some small adjustments, but...

    transfer case problems...

thanks so much for the run-down. as soon as things thaw out around here, or i can find a garage to borrow, i'll have a look at that. very nice to know since shift linkage adj. is almost free as opposed to the potential several hundred for most anything else that could have been wrong.

    transfer case problems...

ok, just got my first jeep a little over a year ago. stock 95 xj sport, aw4, 231. i had a mechanic check it out before i bought it, and he said the 4 wheel ran fine. given the different sized front/rear tires it had on it, i didn't want to use it. recently i got a set of bfg at's, and decided to...

    odd rotational brake? clunk

thanks for the confirmation. that's going to be this weekend. just wanted to make sure there wasn't something i was missing.

    odd rotational brake? clunk

ok, so today on my way into work i started getting a thump in the rear. it's definitely linked to wheel rotation, only occurs at low speed, and only when on the brakes. usually the last few wheel rotations before a full stop. i'm thinking rear brakes, as they've just started to squeak a little...

strange paper/felt matt in engine bay

i like the idea of rubber floor mat. i'm currently considering using PVC shower stall liner i've seen at lowes. need to look up chemical/solvent resistance though. would hate to put it in there only to have it melt in oil or gas and get all over everything.

strange paper/felt matt in engine bay

so now that i've got it out, i can see where all the crap on it seems to come from. the trans cooler lines seem to be absolutely coated in either oil or atf. it's so full of crap i can't tell what color it used to be. it only seems to be on the flex parts of the lines. ahh... yet another leak of...

strange paper/felt matt in engine bay

strange paper/felt matt in engine bay

so i've recently gotten my first jeep, and i've been going over it slowly eliminating leaks and such, and i've recently noticed a strange felt or paper matt at the bottom of the engine bay right near the front. it's pretty badly ripped, and parts are hanging down. it's also got old oil all over...

    AW4 control again...

ok, so after some reading and planning, i've got the first part of the design done. i've decided to use two seperate units to simplify construction, and in the jeep spirit, harden the design to allow for failover. currently the first part i've got going is the source selection and solenoid...

    AW4 control again...

no problem. i've still got a bunch of work to do. it's been way too long since i coded asm. it's probably gonna take me a few days just to get my controllers up and working properly again, then i'll have to start coding all the stuff i've already learned about them. i've probably got a week or...

    AW4 control again...

so having read about the manual shift aw4, i decided i had to build one. i reviewed several designs and started on my own. unfortunately i couldn't find any serious info on brettM's device, as it sounded good. mine initially featured a pic 18f458, and a pair of switches, one for up/down and...

    hello and questions...

thanks for the quick responses and info guys. this is what i was looking for. sjx4250, exactly what i was looking for. paradisexj, yeah, overthinking and underestimating is my usual. it works a lot better when you're working with computers, where you spend 3 months planning 15 minutes of...

    hello and questions...

ok, so i'm just looking for a sanity check here from people much more expirenced before i go starting any real work. i've just recently purchased my first jeep, a '95 cherokee, quite by accident. (my jetta got totaled and it was all i could afford) it's a good vehicle, and i am getting to like...
