LOUD Rear Vibration or Hum disappears with rear Drive shaft removed

There is no problem installing an SYE replacement shaft with the x-fer case still in the jeep. Plenty of room, especially since you are sitting on 35's. I've done one in the Jeep, and one on the bench. The additional effort required to fully remove the x-fer case was not really offset by any...

    NV3550, NSG370 and 242

There are at least 2 different NV3550s: The ones from Wranglers have the x-fer case bolt pattern clocked 10-deg "higher" (i.e. the x-fer case will interfere with the floorboards, and the factory linkages will not properly align) than the ones from the XJ. I have seen pictures of some that are...

01 headlights, tail lights, no dash or center console...headlight switch?

"Fuse 6" governs all the interior lighting (switch, x-fer case, IP, etc... lights). If that fuse is good, and things like your radio and x-fer/AT lights are also out, then all signs point to the headlight switch.

    Peugeot questions

To get the slave out, you need to pull the tranny. I suggest you do some soul searching before you decide whether or not you actually put the peugeot back into your jeep. To get the shifter out, you need to pull the exterior shift boot, then the interior shift boot, then there are 3 bolts...

    Cross Member Differences?

I believe it is a fitment issue (at least it was when I replaced a BA5/10 with an NV3550 in an '87). The shift tower sits real close to the transmission tunnel. Since all the newer Manual trannys use the recessed cross member, I would assume the extra inch is needed. If you don't want to...

    Wacky Blinker Problem

First thing: The blinker fluid is topped off and in great shape, so I don't think that is it..... So, today on the freeway, the '01 jeep started acting funny (slight random hesitation while cruising at 65mph). When I went to pull over, I noticed that my blinkers were flashing at irregular...

    POR-15 Application

I used a brush.... and I never saw that pressure comment in all the documentation that I read. It still came out butter smooth and super glossy (just don't use those $.39 brushes that shed hairs). You did get their UAV resistant variant right? Because standard POR-15 will fade (badly) in the...

    Stock Tire Carrier Bushings

Are you talking about the Spherical Bearings? I would assume that yours fell off because the ball came out of the socket no? If you are talking about those spherical bearings, there is some news: First: After an extensive search, I could not locate any Spherical Bearing manufactures who both...

Driveway alignment -Pitman Arm @ 90 deg. to axle= wheels straight ahead?

Do your tires even need to be centered to check Toe (with the tape measure method)? If you take a tape measure to similar points between the fronts of the tires and the backs, that dimension should not change depending on which way the steering wheel is pointed... As mentioned, after you get...

    Shim Removal?

You've got it backwards. You SHOULD use shims with an SYE to get the axle yolk pointed slightly below (1-2 degrees) the transfer case yolk. But to answer your question: The shims may be bolted to the spring pack with the center pin.

Just bought overhead computer console for my 00 XJ. Any tips?

Rgr that! Just make sure you flag one of the 2 white/black wires and know where it goes (top or bottom) when you are disassembling the harness(es).

Just bought overhead computer console for my 00 XJ. Any tips?

Thanks for that. I would also like to mention (since I have not seen the info anywhere else), that the vanity mirror light plugs for the visors are also different (and incompatable) between a '99 and an '01. The '01 has a 2-wire connector, and the '99 has a smaller, single wire connector...

Just bought overhead computer console for my 00 XJ. Any tips?

It turns out that I have a '99 OHC + wiring harness going into an '01 (the colors match, but the harness connectors don't quite). After reviewing the wiring diagrams, it appears as if both harness are wired identically. In looking at the photos posted by JeepZZ, it appears that the '99 wiring...

Just bought overhead computer console for my 00 XJ. Any tips?

I was specifically wondering about C301 (or the connection at the bottom of the A-Pillar): The ones in the photo on Page 2 posted by JeepZZ. I did a bunch of googling on the connector types, and can't find anything useful (in fact, they all seem to be cylindrical connectors, not blades....so I...
