Here's a little recap from STPR
After the practice stage, rods were making some noise, and found this in the oil pan:
A friend that lives down there offered to throw in some "used" bearings that were in better shape than what we had, so that we could at least run the event at 80%.
I got...
So I'm trying to get this thing ready for STPR at the end of the month, and I need to lower the front end a little to match the rear. I have stock coils up front. Any ideas on options? I was thinking about cutting down a pair of F150 coils, but not sure how well that will work.
This is how...
So let's say I want a completely bolt in application. Any ideas what main leaf I should use? I saw on pirate4x4 that someone used a leaf from a 96 dodge van, and it looked like it might work.
I'm considering converting the XJ to spring under, and if I use a 4.5" lift spring under the axle, I should retain stockish height.
Of course, I also have an 8.8 set up for an MJ with metric ton springs on it already...I could just move the perch over a little and relocate the shackle a bit...
I've been looking at a lot of bastard leaf pack threads, but it seems like no one talks about the rear shackles. If I do an s10 bastard pack, using the xj main leaf, should I be worried about the shackle angle as I approach a 4-5" lift?
I get axle wrap like no one's business. I'm either going to convert to spring under, or 4 link. Still trying to decide which way to go. I really only have a serious issue with it on uneven surfaces though, so it might not be a huge concern if the OPs truck will never be off pavement.
Not totally true. Rally takes place on public roads or all nature. So, it's on road...just not usually on paved roads. That's why we are required to be street legal.
Roof rack is gone already. Bumpers have to stay, but can be "modified" a little to cut out some weight. I was concerned about plexi shattering, but I was thinking about it today, and if I laminate it with clear vinyl, that might make it crack resistant enough.
