HVAC goes to defrost on acceleration

Also check on the firewall near the center/passenger side. A small line comes through the firewall and into the engine compartment with a fairly sharp curve in it. This is where my 98's had a vacuum leak and caused the same systems.

    trans/transfer case noise

Thanks guys for all the help. I couldn't tell until I took it all apart but it was a bad front ujoint on the rear shaft. It was all dried out and hard to move but not loose or anything, it was kinda hard to believe it made all that noise, but its fixed now. Thank God it was just a u-joint, I was...

    trans/transfer case noise

So it still could be u joints even if there is no play in them? This clunking/popping noise seems somewhat too severe and sounds like it is coming from the trans/transfer case itself rather than the joints. I know these problems are almost impossible to diagnose over the internet without seeing...

    trans/transfer case noise

I dont have an external tach but I am just making sure this post was for me...? The Jeep tach seems to be right on the money but what were you thinking if it wasn't?

    trans/transfer case noise

I got a 98 4.0/AW4/231 and I have this weird clunking/ pop noise when I go from D to R or vice versa. Then when I am driving forward I can hear this squeaking kind of noise up until about 30 mph or so. It sounds like U-joints but they seem to be totally fine. I am stumped and cant seem to turn...

RMS and Head Gasket Oil Leak?

Well I removed the a/c compressor, the bracket, dist. cap, etc. Basically anything in the way of the right side of the cylinder head/block. I then covered up the dist. with a sandwhich bag, (which is a perfect fit by the way) and degreased and cleaned the entire right side. Then put some high...

RMS and Head Gasket Oil Leak?

Thanks guys. I did that already with some engine degreaser stuff. The head gasket is definitely seeping oil. I was wondering if anyone has successfully fixed this problem without tearing the motor apart? Also, should the flywheel and inner bellhousing be covered if the RMS is bad or is it...

RMS and Head Gasket Oil Leak?

Hey guys, a few questions for you. I have a 98 Classic 4.0/AW4 4x4 with 138,000 miles. I get a few drips of oil every night about the size of a quarter-1/2 dollar on my driveway. I have been for over a year. I look underneath the Jeep and the entire right side of the block, from the where the...

Firepower Ignition Kit - '98 XJ

I have this kit on my 98 XJ and it works great. From what I remember, I think I used the coil adapter.... never had any problems. I know it did not help performance at all, but the Jeep does start up a lot faster than it used to. It used to take a little longer than the average car to finally...

    Softest Available Replacement Shocks?

haha, no, no nose rubbing; just thought i would follow up on to the thread and pass along some info in case anyone else was looking for a set of decent shocks for those of us who dont go the lifted route. I appreciate very much all of the help I have gotten on this board and cant thank you guys...

    Softest Available Replacement Shocks?

An update; I bought and installed some 'Mopar Value Line' shocks that I got from the dealer. Never heard of the value line before but I guess they are made so dealers can compete with the midas' and merlin's and such. I guess nobody was willing to pay all the money for an OEM piece and going...

    thermostat

I had a generic 195 thermostat in mine and it caused the jeep to run at and a little above 210 according to the gauge. I recommend only replacing with a Mopar thermostat because it has the little bleed hole most aftermarket ones dont. When I replaced with the Mopar one it now runs right below...

    Softest Available Replacement Shocks?

I didn't buy the cheapest ones I could find, I bought the ones recommended most by the board. They really weren't cheap at all. I think the 'magic shock' must be the Mopar ones, because the stockers rode great and were actually engineered for the XJ. Hopefully they are still available... Sorry...

    Softest Available Replacement Shocks?

yeah yeah I know, buy a caddilac if you want a soft ride, but Cadillac's are pieces of shit and I like the bulletproof-ness of the Jeep and how it can take what the shitty Chicago streets and weather can throw at it, unlike most cars. Having said that, the ride this thing has right now is beyond...

    Softest Available Replacement Shocks?

Ok, well this thread seems to say the sensa tracs suck. So has anyone had success with any other shocks. Anyone try new OEM's? Any other aftermarket shocks that ride smoother than sensa trac. I cant seem ot find anything.
