    Help me find 4th gear!

I am bringing my old thread back up again. The Jeep still loses 4th when it gets hot and 3rd when it gets really hot. I replaced the transmission solenoids, but no joy. I cleaned NSS, but no joy. I just ordered a new NSS. Hopefully that will do it.

    Cleaning Sludge

Sigh, I suppose you are right.

    Cleaning Sludge

It's got about 130k. I started to look at dropping the pan and replacing the oil pump after you and the others mentioned it. The oil pressure drops down to 10 psi at idle, and some have said that replacing the pump also fixed their low oil pressure issue at idle. What are the dangers of...

    Cleaning Sludge

I am replacing my valve cover gasket and I was greeted by this: The sludge is so bad I can wipe it off in chuncks. What's the best way to clean this up?

    Engine Swap Options

It turns out Tim Allen lied to me and it's not just about "More Power!" I thought the disks all around and "frame" stiffeners would have made a difference, but it sounds like it really is not enough. Thanks for all the advice. Back to the drawing board! While my pipe dream has burst, you...

    Engine Swap Options

What makes 5k sketchy? Body roll? The trailers I'm looking at are around the 5,500 dry. With stuff in it I figure it'd be around 6,000.

    Engine Swap Options

I want to build out the XJ to tow a travel trailer over mountains, and the I6 just won't cut it. I'm at the end of my skills, so I am going to look into hiring someone to swap the engine. I figure, why spend $10k on a used unknown truck that I have to in$ure (New Orleans insurance is stupid...

    Help me find 4th gear!

Whoops! I meant to delete that row. That was before I replaced the TPS. I suppose I should go and check that voltage again. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

    Help me find 4th gear!

Instead of boring you with a long post, I figured I'd try something different to solicit help for my misbehaving transmission. Year: 1997 Trans: AW4 Fluid: Dexron VI replaced w/filter 10k miles ago Symptoms: Works fine for 20 minutes. After 4th gear rarely engages. Even going down hill it will...

    TPS Voltage Check Question

Since I'm getting 4.6 minimum on Pin 2 (to PCM), I'm going to guess my TPS is shot. Thanks for the quick and short answer! Washed the engine? Ain't nobody got time for dat :)

    TPS Voltage Check Question

I'm doing some troubleshooting on the 97 XJ automatically unlocking the TC and even downshifting sometimes. Instead of boring you will all of the details, I figured I'd keep this post to one question: Does the Jeep need to be at operating temperature to do the checks? Everything is good...

WJ Knuckle Swap & Wheel Size Question

How bad is having .25" less of threads holding the wheels on? On a related note, I'm guessing you are running 15s as well. How does the Jeep ride with 35s and 15" wheels?

WJ Knuckle Swap & Wheel Size Question

I figured I would update this in case anyone else was looking for answers. I had my wheel measured with a tire caliper, and it turns out my wheel is 9", which probably means 4.5" of backspacing. It also means that it did not fit without spacers. What is odd is I cannot find a 15x9" black steel...

Please Double Check My Rear Lift Math

The IROs are longer than stock, so I would move my shackle one bolt to the rear. Ideally, that would put the angle right at about 45 degrees, which I think is the desired angle.
