I'm back at it after a whole month. Now I can't tell which bolts are the correct ones for the oil pump. I found two that work, but the long one has a washer while the short doesn't
what water passages?

leaning more towards the rebuild. I will get be removing the head tonight and see if the engine needs any work done. Hopefully it won't need new oversized pistons.
still debating on doing a full rebuild if not necessary. I don't keep my cars for too long. checking the head tonight if I have time after compression test
So I just acquired a second XJ. An 01 automatic 4wd. last registered in 2010, previous owner's title reads 180k miles from 2006 I believe. I was told the oil pump was bad on it. The previous owner started tearing it apart but only got as far as removing the oil pan. It has been sitting in dirt...
finally back to it. I will be doing as winterbeater suggested.
Just to confirm I will be doing it right.
take all plugs out. check compression while cranking.
I tried putting compressed air through cylinder one and noticed that the plug was very closed up. I fixed the gap and is feeling better but still has a shake to it.
