    Many sleepless nights and a lot of new parts later, it was the ignition coil arcing that gave a rich condition. I put a new one and passed smog as new. Thanks for the replies, at least now i know that everything else is working properly.

    Tailpipe exhaust note and power loss question

    So after many tries at finding and still failing the running to rich for California smog, I noticed something new. I have a new magnaflow carb cat BTW. I've noticed that the exhaust note almost sounds like if it did not have a cat, plus it feels very sluggish. New O2, new tps at .83v etc. AX-15 4.0

    Thanks EcoMike! I will check the 02 leads tonight. I was trying to duplicate the high speed fail from the test, that's why the high rpm in neutral.

    Yes it was, it being plugged in is what made the engine bog on the rollers from 1st to 2nd gear. The diaphragm does move when the gas pedal is moved. Think this might have some fault?

    Why would the engine stumble to the point of dying when the EGR is plugged in, and run like new when I disconnect the vacuum hose from the solenoid? I promise to keep this thread informed with my findings.
