Zippo liquid lighter fluid will get the goo/glue off pretty easily

simple answer is that the upper hose and the water outlet should be the same temp. once it reaches operating temperature.

if the thermostat housing reads 250* and the upper hose is reading 180* you have a bad thermostat-- fix that first
