    Ballast Resistor Revisited

Just went outside and looked and I've positively ID the part. Is there any reason why I can't/shouldn't just clip off the spade connectors, strip down the wires a bit,put the 2 ends together with a but joint connector, and then heat shrink over the whole repair area?

    Ballast Resistor Revisited

Thanks 5-90 (once again!) What really blows my mind, is that the part isn't even available at the dealership. I've gotten used to NAPA and the others telling me they cant get some esoteric part. This is the 1st time I've ever gone to a dealership's parts department only to be told, "Sorry...

    Ballast Resistor Revisited

Ok back on the hunt then. I was under the impression that it was mounted to the firewall on the drivers side :( What is the doohickey in the photo?

    Ballast Resistor Revisited

After figuring out ( in a large part through NAJXJA you guys ROCK! ) that my starts but wont run issue is most likely a Ballast Resistor gone bad, I set out to buy a replacement. I've searched high and low locally NAPA, Benet, AutoZone, Advanced Auto, even the Jeep Stealership, er Dealership's...

    Ballast Resistor Lifespan?

I think my ballast resistor is shot. I'll be going tomorrow to pick up a new one, but I cant find it in the on-line NAPA parts catalogue ( I have much better luck getting what I need when I go in with a part number ) Any idea what else the fuel pump ballast resistor might be called? Sal

91 XJ starts then dies. Bad CPS?

Birchlake, Thanks for the reply. I don't see any type of ceramic ballast on the firewall. I'm assumig you mean engine side and not up under the dash. Was the ceramic ballast on the RENIX engines? I do NOT have a RENIX. Sal

91 XJ starts then dies. Bad CPS?

Took the nine year old fishing. Jeep started and ran great to the fishing hole but wouldn't start when it was time to go back home. It would start, but as soon as the ignition was moved from START back to RUN, it died. I have good spark, and I get lots of fuel (took off the fuel line where...

    Q on new Battery cables

Bench vice + Dremmel tool made quick work of it. Think I'll keep the wire in the Jeep w/ me and give the scrap copper to the next homeless guy who asks me for some change :flipoff:

    Q on new Battery cables

A while back I ordered new cables for my XJ from 5-90. I finally got around to putting them on and I have a question. The OEM positive cable that comes of the bat and goes to the main box under the hood had a connection for attaching to 2 bolts on the front of the box. My 5-90s only have a...

    alternator install issues

Cant believe I been lurking here as long as I have and I've finally had an issue with my XJ that I cant find the solution to using the search :gag: Yesterday I put a new starter and alternator in my XJ (1991 Limited w/ the 4.0 I6) When I removed the Alt I found a wire that was not connected...
