Manual to Auto Swap (aka Blasphemy)

Another question on this -- is there any advantage to the 4 pulse/rev 98+ AW4s versus the 1 pulse/rev AW4s found on 97 and prior XJs? I'd be swapping the harness over anyway so all the wiring would be fine, just curious about the transmission and pulses/sec itself. Thanks!

Manual to Auto Swap (aka Blasphemy)

Thank you for the reply! I agree, a donor seems like the best way to go. I'm currently trying to navigate the options on copart to find a good one.

Manual to Auto Swap (aka Blasphemy)

Sounds like a good idea -- thanks for the input gents. This is probably trending toward deserving its own thread, but I'll attempt to not shotgun-blast my questions all over the boards...what do folks look for when picking up salvage yard axles? I'm going to go with 4.10s prior to the swap...

Manual to Auto Swap (aka Blasphemy)

Thank you for the reply. What's everyone's thought on splicing in required AW4 connectors into my harness vs swapping the harness entirely? Both sound difficult, wondering what the path of least resistance is.

Manual to Auto Swap (aka Blasphemy)

Hi all, My last thread was about putting an NP-242 behind an AX-15...that plan is on hold indefinitely. I have a physically demanding job that takes its toll on my back, and the problem isn't getting any better. I'm also doubtful it'll improve even after I stop doing this for a living (I fly...

    AX-15 + NP-242, Revisited

Thanks for that viewpoint. And I've enjoyed reading your build thread! Jim, fantastic write up. Thank you for taking the time to submit that. The swap is a go. I won't be doing it until December most likely, but I'll update this thread once complete. Hopefully when someone else is...

    AX-15 + NP-242, Revisited

It's not as if the 242 is made of glass! But thank you :)

    AX-15 + NP-242, Revisited

Thank you for the replies everyone. I think there's a misunderstanding though with what I'm asking. I'll do my best to explain. A manufacturer certainly wouldn't want to put a subpar product or combination in a vehicle; I agree. This is why the NP242 was only offered with the AW4, not the...

    AX-15 + NP-242, Revisited

Hi everyone, Sorry, this issue *has* been discussed a few times on various forums, but a lot of the continuity on this is 5+ years old. And I can't seem to make a new post on archived threads. My XJ is: a daily driver, 95%+ on road only, in great shape with 180,000-ish miles. AX-15 with NP-231...

    OK, sounds good, thanks again!

    NP231 to 242 Swap -- Need Clarification

Thank you for the reply! Just to clarify, the part number you provided is for the entire assembly, correct? I can't tell just by looking at the corresponding diagram if it's the assembly or just the shifter. Thanks again

    NP231 to 242 Swap -- Need Clarification

Hi everyone, I've been lurking on these forums since I bought my XJ a few months ago, and I've learned a lot. Thanks for this excellent resource. I bought my XJ and, of course, had the dreaded cracked cylinder head issue (shame on me for not knowing to look carefully for that before buying it...
