Sounds like fun, set some dates. Surf fishing is not good from January to April. I've been skunked on a couple of trips in that time period. Summer months are Ok, just be prepared for crowds and heat and humidity. The Fall is the best time at the OBX IMO. Never been to the Northern beaches...
Carry a tarp with you and cover it up at night. I do that while camping out, keeps the dew from collecting inside the XJ if it's that time of year.

Find a local electronics shop in your area, (not radio shack) They will have a large assortment of modular plugs. I got a 15 position plug for the drivers side and 9 position plug for the passenger, cost leass then $10. HTH

I had the RE extended & braided hose and snagged it on some branches and tore it apart. I replaced it with a soft brake hose from a 97 dodge ram 4x4. It is an inch longer than the RE one and uses the same fittings. Its not steel braided though. Cost $37 from Advanced auto. So far so good!

Empty a paper hole punch of all the paper dots and place them on the visor. The next sunny day they will dump all over the place You could also place them in the vents so they blow out when the AC/heat is turned on.
If you have a key to the friends car covertly reprogram all his radio station...
I've had a Noslip in my 8.25 for 1.5 years with numerous off road trips and no problems other than poor on road behavior. When I get on the gas the XJ wants to go right, when I let off the gas it wants to go left.

I specifically looked for a 2 Door XJ for my rig. Here it is stock, with the mirrored windows.
And here it is last summer...
It now has lexan for the rear windows.
