4.88's are perfect for 35's, 37's are 5.29 territory, but 4.88's can get buy.
Someone else posted up the link to Ih8mud.com, one of the best cruiser boards around. Good info, helpful people too. Slee's Offroad are the 80 experts too. He will answer any questions you got.
Yes plenty of people have made their own arms. The only kit, I'd run off the shelf is Clayton's but it only has one setback but that's because it's made to fit many different rigs with very little problems, not a one off custom setup.
Some people have used RE's TJ long arms and made their own...
Yes, 4.5" is enough for long arms.
There is alot of different answers to what you need. You can buy pre-made arms, crossmembers, or all together, or build everything yourself.
If the suspension is balanced front and rear...then you will be way better off. That's the key to setting everything up, making sure everything works together.
Without really cutting into the interior of the XJ like CheapXJ did. You can run 4.5" and clear a 35" tire.
Dirk runs 35" MTR's with around 5" of lift on his XJ.
My dad owns a 94 ZJ with a 4.0, has only had 2 issues in it since we bought it (had 140k, now has 170k). MC went out driving down the road, AC compressor went bad, that's it besides regular maintance. No issues at all.
I would like to find as many pics as I can of this stage of his rig. I can't seem to find but a few. If you have any post them or you can email them to me at NCxj17 *at* aol.com,
TIA, Will
If I had a family to wheel with, and needed the extra room. FZJ80 all the way, might cost me more to buy and build it, but that thing will damn near last forever (300k on the 4.5L engine is very easy to get with regular maintance). It's just one heck of a rig period, solid as can be.
That's...
