I'm not gonna flame you, but I think that the weight of even an EMPTY tire carrier on the stock bumper would be too much.
I'm still new to the XJ craze, but I've got an '01 with no rust and my best friend tore my rear bumper off last week just by standing on it to reach the roof rack! Of course...
So would that avoid most issues? Just 2" shackle in rear and 2" spacers in front??
If so, I could live with that. I really want to stay around a 30" tire, but with plenty of room. I have the factory LSD in the 8.25 rear and an ARB up front. Other than a slight boost, all I plan to do is add a...
That is another option I am looking into. What kind of total lift did you get with the RE kit? I've always heard it was more like 4.5"
I really don't want to do a SYE. I'm not a hard core offroader, but my rig is an emergency vehicle, so I need it to be relatively capable.
Thanks again!
Lockers will take some getting used to on the snow and ice. You may even decide you hate them after awhile. If $$$ permits, I would recommend a selectable locker like the ARB. Best of both worlds!!!
Hi,
I have a 2000 XJ with the upcounty package. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, as I have 19 inches between the axle and flare lip. Everyone local I spoke with said the up-country only gave about an inch of lift over stock.
I am looking at adding a rocky road 3" BB to my existing suspension...

explains the principle. You would have to have fairleads front and rear and of course your rope would have to be routed in channels of some sort to keep out of the way.
Has anyone considered trying to centrally mount a winch in the cargo area of their XJ? Similar to what Foers did with the IBEX trucks. I had one in my discovery(I'm a long time Rover fan, so don't flame me!) but I digress. IMHO, this is probably the best way to have a front and rear winch all in...
