I will be down there again this year for sure. Just registered myself and my girl friend. Hopefully I will not have the burdensome dachshunds slowing me down but that could change. I don't know which vehicle I will be in as so many projects are in the works. Either way, it will be a Jeep and I...
I have an '01 XJ Sport with a 5 speed manual transmission for sale. (NV3550) This is as rare as it gets, I spent years looking and have only seen a few.
I have installed the following:
-5.5" Rubicon Express Extreme Duty Long Arm lift part # RE6300
-1999 Dana 30 high pinion front axle with an...
One way to know if you are having a u-joint problem with a rear driveshaft angle is to drive it and see if you have any vibes coming from it when you are decelerating at highway speeds. This is easier to do with a manual but if you go from overdrive to 3rd gear with your auto while going 70 with...
I wouldn't worry, I have two late model XJs with the NV3550 and have driven them from stock to where they sit now with 32" tires. Even with a 30" tire, your NV3550 with the lower RPM peak torque output compared with some of the mid 90s and earlier AX15s and 4.0s, (that I also owned a few of) the...
OME have been the best springs and shocks I have used on an XJ so far. They really did a good job of matching the shocks for the weight of the Jeep and spring rate. The handling improves over stock quite a bit as well.
Hope this helps,
Brian
Glad to help, I wish more people would look into their tow points a little bit more like you did. From the stuff I see welded or fabbed up on the trails, I really can't believe what some people consider as a safe tow point.
I am a welding inspector so the people welding up tow points with their...
Looking at the material you have left and figuring your breaking strength knowing that is made of steel, that piece is plenty strong. If you ever have a chance, take a look at ARB bullbars and the piece of sheetmetal they want you to hook a d-ring to. They spot welded a washer on one side of the...
That will absolutely be fine. That solid steel will have a tensile strength that far exceeds any tow strap you will be able to lift. With out the holes you would need around 240,000 lbs to break it. Even if your holes are 1" dia you are still left with 120,000lbs of breaking strength. Keep in...
I was thinking maybe Tom Woods might use a seal that doesn't work as well as it could. I know my TW driveshaft is bathed in salt water during the winter. Also, I am running manual transmissions on both of my XJs. I know that shocks the drivetrain a lot more and maybe that throws a bit...
Hi all,
I have been going through Tom Wood's driveshafts over the past couple years on a couple lifted XJs. I can't believe how fast the double cardon part with the needle bearings wear out. I heard from a guy that sells 4wd parts over the phone that those driveshafts don't last under high...
That steel price isn't too far off from being what everyone pays. The price of steel has been going up fast over the last few months and will continue to do so because of demand from other countries. About two years ago stainless steel hit record lows as far as the price per ton goes, you might...
